Dominique M. Davíd-Chavez, The Department of Human Dimensions of Natural Resources. Human Dimensions of Climate Change: Responsible Research Engagement with Indigenous Knowledge Systems and Communities
For millennia Indigenous communities worldwide have maintained knowledge systems informed through careful observation of dynamics of environmental changes. Although Indigenous knowledge systems are recognized as critical resources for understanding and adapting to climate change, we currently have neither a standard set of indicators for responsible inclusion of Indigenous knowledge and communities in environmental sciences, nor an understanding of the degree to which responsible research practices are followed. This study fills these two research gaps and provides an analytical framework with guidelines for responsible research practice that could be further applied for assessing Indigenous community engagement in other fields of research.
