Summary by Esther Duke, Colorado Forest Health Council Proxy Member serving in place of Katie McNovak, as “an individual employed by or associated with a forest collaborative organization.”
This document summarizes points from a short Forest Health Council meeting on October 15, 2025. The meeting was convened to discuss how goals and strategies for the 30-Year Vision will be implemented or distributed. This post is an interpretation of discussions from the meeting, but it is not an official Forest Health Council document.
Implementation is the most important part of this vision and the plan for how this vision will be realized will help inform how it is finalized.
At the meeting, the CFHC members discussed how local and regional strategies and plans tie to the CFHC 30 Year Vision. Becca Samulski with Fire Adapted Colorado facilitated this discussion about CFHC 30 Year Vision implementation.
Members discussed the importance of having the 30 Year Vision be a resource in support of the activities of local and regional efforts. Members also wanted to clarify that this is a vision and not a strategic or annual plan, it is purposefully broad and big picture while still providing a roadmap. One benefit to local efforts is that they can tie their strategic plans to the vision and call out where there is alignment, but it is in no way a replacement to local planning efforts. Members decided to add an acknowledgement in the document that local efforts and strategies are essential and will strengthen the implementation of priority strategies.
Council members suggested that we provide the opportunity for members and other groups throughout the state to sign on in support of the Vision, and maybe even come up with a graphic/medallion that could be added to the website of signatories and promoted on social media to indicate support.
Members discussed the pros and cons of a roadshow and talked about a public webinar to promote the 30 Year Vision.
